Stone Flower II

I’m still working on the stone flower (part 1) in my mosaic class. I’m changing the design as I go which is not good, but it is a learning experience. The maestro doesn’t like the “unnatural” looking center (a hexagon). So I’ll change that. It will take 3 or so lessons in January to complete.

In the photo above, the stem is missing. The piece is taking long because the background is one piece of stone and I had to remove the parts for the flower and the leaves. To do this I used a bent branch of a chestnut tree with a wire strung between the two ends (the maestro makes these). Sort of a like a bow. I cut of the form applying little bits of grit to help chew through the stone.
