April 25th is
Liberation Day in Italy and is a fixed (not moveable) public holiday. (See
public holidays in Italy.) It celebrates the end of World War II in Italy in 1945. This year it fell on Friday so everyone was taking a long weekend. Florence was packed to the gills. The weather has been fabulous so everyone is out walking and lounging in cafes.
