ET and the Vatican

Giordano Bruno and Democritus - Cosmic Pluralism

After reading this article on the BBC about the Vatican’s statements about extraterrestrial life and even the mention that they are organizing a conference on the anniversary of Charles Darwin’s birthday, we just had to say: "woah". A step in the right direction (if not a little late) compared to some other religions and belief systems that are so patently backwards in thinking.

On a related note, Travelmarx has nothing but praise for Microsoft’s (gulp) World Wide Telescope project. Truly awe-inspiring.

  1. Dear Mark and Mark,
I have enjoyed your blog very much and as a lover of Florence am delighted to read about your deepening investigation of the city. I write because--independently of your blog--we have been considering renting the very same house you are in now for our sabbatical during the 2008-2009 academic year. We know Florence well, having lived there before, but are curious about the little house. Would you rent it again? Did everything work? Did the shower drain well (slow drains are my pet peeve)? And what did the utility bills look like in winter? I would be very grateful for any insights you could provide! With warm thanks, Areli (email arelishop at gmail dot com)
